This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band UMTS 850/1900 MHz network, and this phone is also compatible with 2100 MHz 3G networks (found in international territories). The AT&T 3G network provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. If touch screens are not important to you, which i pesonally dont see the point, then the bold has everything else one needs. i use it primarily for work purposes with my works blackberry enterprise and it has been a blessing. emails, to do lists, appointments, even comes pre loaded with an office document reader to keep up with excel word and powerpoint files. a nice perk is that it supports wifi and automatically switches to it when a program can use it.
for phone calls themselves the voice quality is great, i love adding short cuts to all the letters on the keyboard which makes for easy fast dialing.

u can have different email addresses, get tons of apps like yahoo messanger caller id etc.

as a music player it also works great, added a 16gb card to it and so it can store alot of things. for video i was amazed at how nice it looks, with the att cellular video feature there is tons of content you can stream and it looks just like it would on a nice tv at home.

for music the speakers on the phone itself are surprisingly loud and clear. for the car i bought an fm transmitter to play music in the car and its on par with my ipod. a nice extra perk i hadnt thought about and found out when i plugged in the fm transmitter is that if you put a call on speaker with the fm transmitter the phone transfers the person you are talking to to your car speakers so its a nice handsfree tool.

only con i can think of is that if u have wifi and bluetooth the battery does drain and you need to charge it at least once a day with normal talking time.

if you are someone interested in web browsing then this phones is not for you because the browser is not good at all other than for simple things like reading news etc, but its no way close to safari. so if your getting this phone for that then go with the iphone if you want a productivity tool that can also do good things with music and streaming video then you cant go wrong with this phone.

Preparing for a Showdown Against an iPhone Friend User

After recieving my new Bold yesterday, I've put in quite a bit of time trying out the features. So far, it is easily the best phone I have experienced. This is my first Blackberry, and I switched from my previous Blackjack II wm 6.0 mostly because my work only supports blackberry enterprise service for email. I'd been told to get a blackberry two months ago, but waited for the bold because I didn't want to downgrade my personal features. With that in mind, I consider myself to bridge the gap between a business user and a personal entertainment user.

Of course the first thing to say is that the screen in gorgeous. The demo videos nicely show off the tightly packed pixels. But what I didn't know going into the purchase is how many little surprises were in store:
1) The media manager is straightforward and solid. I just popped in my previous 8gb microSD and it found all my .wma files without prompting. I can find the artist or song title I want by typing in the first few letters. Only negative is it hasn't yet located the album art put on the card by wmp.
2) The screen responds to ambient light by becoming brighter when it's bright, and dimmer with backlit keyboad in low light.
3) When you plug it in for charging, it automatically switches to a clock display mode, where you can also easily set the alarm, which is perfect for how I use my phone as my main alarm. You can also set it from here to bedside mode, which permantly displays the clock super dim, and turns off annoying notification leds.
4) Paired with my BT stereo headphones instantly. Found my home wifi network and logged on much easier than Vista.
5) Voice dialing works surprisingly well.
6) Very loud speaker for music playback with surprising quality.
7) Web browser still not as nice as iphone's, but nicer than pocket ie on windows mobile.
8) The new blackberry versions of gmail and google maps rock (I downloaded them). Maps provides fast and accurate gps location, and even includes streetview! Yahoo Go (my other main ap) however, does not yet support the Bold.
9) Users new to 3G will be surprised by how fast the battery can drain when using that connection. But the battery actually holds out on par with other 3G phones.

So, in reference to my subject showdown, I'm sure many reviews tell you that BB is for the business user and iphone for the entertainment buff. But my big beef with the iphone is the dumfounding decision they made to not support stereo bluetooth headsets, which in my opinion puts the Bold on top as a media device. What good is being able to flick through albums when your finger keeps getting caught on headphone wires? No doubt the iphone's browser is better, but the bold's is passable for a phone, and when you trade it for BB's renowned email service, I am incredibly pleased with my purchase.

If you like Blackberry phones, you'll love this on!

I upgraded from a Blackberry Pearl to the Bold because my Pearl stopped working properly after being introduced to a sink full of water.

Once I got the bold, I was completely satisfied. The Wi-Fi works great, 3G works great. The user interface is top notch. I also really like the bedside mode feature of the clock.

The screen is clear as day, and the sound is awesome. I played one song on my Bold and found out, much to my surprise, that the bold has stereo sound. Every phone I've had prior had one tiny, undersized, speaker with which to pump out the ringtones and mp3's. The bold, however, sounds fantastic.

The only thing that has happened to me is that when I first got it an set up my personal email address on it, it kept saying that I had a new message when I didn't have one anywhere. With some research online, I found out that this is a common problem that people get initially, but can be easily fixed by popping the battery out and back in. The problem hasn't happened since.

I think that any and all bugs will be cleared up when the first firmware updates are released.

I also really like the programs that come with it. [....] program, in conjunction with the built-in GPS, works great. You need to find a Target near you? Simply type in target, tell it to look up the nearest store from your GPS location, and viola! Step by step directions to the top 10 closest matches to your request (closest as in distance, and relativity to your search terms).

I also downloaded google maps program. It is a great replacement for the telnav program if you don't want to pay for it. I input an address and told it to get me directions from my GPS location, and it told me how to get there. Also, it showed a rendered map of the are with a dot and arrow indicating my car and the direction I was traveling. When I stopped driving, the dot stopped moving on the rendered map. When I turned, the GPS told the program and the dot turned. Great stuff!

To put my review shortly, if you like Blackberry's, you'll love the bold. If you don't like Blackberry's, get an iPhone and quite worrying about it. To me, it seems like the Bold can do pretty much everything the Iphone can do minus the touch screen. Any feature you can get for the Iphone, you can probably download for the Bold. If you are like me and hate touchscreens, then get the Bold. You won't regret it.

As to the other reviewers that said that their bold kept breaking/freezing/dropping calls, etc... I don't know what to tell you. You must have simply gotten your phone from a bad batch because mine has worked flawlessly (minus the one problem mentioned above).
