Sprint Service Options
Supporting the EV-DO Rev. A high-speed data standard, Sprint's Mobile Broadband Network provides blazing fast speeds on the nation's largest mobile broadband network (based on covered square miles), covering more than 15,000 cities and 1,400 airports. With EV-DO Rev. A, peak download data rates increase to 3.1 Mbps and peak upload data rates increase to 1.8 Mbps; average download speeds improve to 600 kbps to 1.4 mbps and average uplink speeds increase to 350 to 500 kbps.

The Sprint Music Store enables you to buy, download, and then jam out wherever you are with new songs or old favorites. Offering a growing selection of more than 1.6 million songs, the store provides you two copies of each song--one for the phone and another for the PC, as well as the ability to burn songs to a CD using Windows Media Player. Save your songs to a memory card with a capacity that's right for you. Use the Sprint Music Store to listen to music while sending text messages, browsing the Web, or playing a downloaded game. And get over 30 channels of music--Hip Hop, Top Hits, Latin Pop, music videos and shows from NPR, Sporting News and more--treamed to your phone.

With Sprint TV, you can make your cell phone your always-on source for news, weather, sports and more. This comprehensive video service combines high-quality streaming audio and video from channels including the NFL Network, ABC, The Weather Channel, Fox Sports, E!, CNN, The Discovery Channel, and more.

As you approach the turn, you will hear, "Turn right on Elm Street." Sprint Navigation also provides proactive traffic alerts with one click re-routing. And it's easy to find restaurants, banks, cafes, hotels and more from over 10 million points of interest across the U.S.

Think Instinct

by Harkanwar Anand 2008-09-17, 7 people found this review helpful
Sprint has a new trick up it's sleeve. Just when their phones were looking dull, they came up with Instinct. The Instinct has many features, doesn't ever hang because it never promises to do something it can't.

Package Contents - 2 batteries, a portable battery charger that can be connected with usb or power, headset, cd rom with manual, stylus, a leather case, adapter for 2gig micro sd card, travel charger and usb cable.

Features -
a) Camera - 2megapixel camera with some great footage, works with a flash, side button for camera, it also has a video camcorder for recording videos, a function absent from the iphone
b) Battery life - The battery is efficeient. Sprint gives two batteries with the phone. The battery not-in-use can be charged using an external charger which comes with the battery, either by using usb or wall
c) RAM - The phone has good ram and is fast to use
d) Sprint TV - The minimum plan to get this phone starts at 69.99 PM - You get unlimited internet access and also free tv on your phone, there isn't much to complain about
e) No more stylus : although the phone comes with a stylus, it is never used, there isn't a place on the phone to place the stylus
f) Video Calling
g) Gives you the name of the state you're getting a call from
h) Comes with radio unlike the curve
i) Block to Block GPS - Unlimited use, no extra cost
j) Decent build quality

For new customers the price is two hundred and twenty five.
The outright price of the phone is 449 but what are you going to do without a contract.

This may not be the iphone killer. I don't think there will ever be an iphone killer and the reason for that is that there was no ipod killer.

PS - I don't have the iphone, I don't want to use a phone everyone has.

Cons - Not the best reception for audio/video call, the phone comes with 2gb of memory, this makes you think that maybe the functionality of media on the phone is not that good but I'll see that and let you know if need be.

2 batteries is good. 4 stars. upgrade now.

Great phone that meets my needs

by fake name 2009-01-24, 1 people found this review helpful
My needs for a phone are simple: easy text messaging, great call quality, aesthetically pleasing, access to internet, and web-based email. The Samsung Instict meets my needs on all the above criteria.

Text messaging is easy with the vertical QWERTY keyboard that is very responsive with the touch screen. It displays the texts by the person that you are texting a la instant messager. Very convenient. You do not have to search through all your messages to find a particular one, you can just go to the persons name and see the entire "conversation" as both sent and received messages are displayed until you choose to delete.

The call quality in my area is great via the Sprint network. I am not dropping calls and people can hear me loud and clear. Very happy with this as call quality is also high in both my vehicles blu-tooth system. Whereas with my previous Blackberry and Samsung phones the quality was not as high.

Internet is easy to access and while it is not the fastest to access some webpages, it is effective and easy to navigate. With buttons that connect straight to Facebook and local movie time, it more than meets my needs.

One-touch access to my web-based google mail account is great. It was simple and fast to set up and notifies me almost immediately when I receive an email. While this is not my main email account, as I do not want to receive a lot of email to my phone (I personally do not want to work or shop 24 hours a day - goodbye Blackberry) but gives me access to email my friends and family to keep in touch that way, if I choose. Which is an option that I appreciate.

And lastly, the Instinct is aesthetically pleasing. The phone has great screen colors and resolution for my use. While it may not be the best, it definitely is sufficient for me. The screen reacts in real-time with the touch screen and has a pleasant slight vibration, acknowledging the touch. The interface is easy to use and took me only a couple of minutes to get use to.

An extra on this phone that I did not think that I would use or need is the GPS. I have a built in navigation system in my car but I like the navigation on the phone because it gives up-to-the-minute traffic and road closure information which comes in really handy when you are sitting in traffic and wondering why. You can pull up your destination on the phone and it can reroute you around the problem area. This is something that I would not look for on a phone-definitely not a make or break feature-but a very nice surprise and addition to the phone.

While this is not a Smartphone and if you are looking for a phone that can perform basic functions and do them well, this is a great phone and I highly recommend it.

But, there are some cons, but I feel that Samsung has done what they could do to correct them. The battery life. It is short. I have to charge my phone every day and a half. Which isn't that bad, considering that they provide a second battery and an external charger for it. I have tested the external charger and it works great, but the battery life does not bother me that much, so I haven't bothered even taking the second battery out of the package. The phone is feature rich and offers a nice, bright screen, of course it will need to use a lot of battery. I prefer two batteries to one that lasts longer but is heavier. So in my opinion Samsung made the right choice there.
